Should You Use a Discount Skin Care Product?

Skin care is a lucrative business in today's image obsessed society. There are products designed for every possible skin care need. People these days are using cleansers, scrubs, toners, creams, serums and beyond to make their skin appear attractive and young. When it comes to skin care lines, there are affordable choices available at most any drugstore as well as extravagant choices offered at high-end department and specialty stores. Depending on what option you choose, your skin care product could cost anywhere from under $5 to over $100. Many people wonder if a discount skin care product can be as good as one from a high-end department store.

This always depends on the products that are being compared. It's a good idea to compare ingredients to discover if the department store product contains the same ingredients as the discount product does. If the ingredients are very similar, you'll know that it's probably a safe bet to go with the less expensive product. Often, people end up paying more for a fashionable brand name and pretty packaging when it's just not necessary. Let's say you were seeking a simple product like a rosewater and glycerin skin toner. It's highly likely that the cheap one from the drugstore is just as good as the one that costs ten times as much at the department store.

Sometimes, there can be benefits to the more expensive products. There are ingredients and formulations found in certain high end skin care products that you just can't get at the drugstore. One example of a product on the cutting edge of skin care technology is Revive Intensite Volumizing Serum. This product contains a molecule called KGF, or Keratinocyte Growth Factor, which works by plumping problem areas, accelerating the rejuvenation of skin cells and hindering DNA fragmentation. The cost for all this dermatological technology? Around $600 an ounce!

Whether or not you choose a discount skin care product or one from a department store, it's important that it works for you. For example, some people find fantastic results from a supermarket wrinkle cream like those from Olay or Neutrogena, while others swear by a costlier one from a name brand like Murad or Creme de la Mer. It's all about finding a product line that works with your skin type and gives you the results you're looking for.
