How to Select the Right Acne Skin Care Products for You
Acne is a common complexion problem that affects teens and adults alike. Many people think that breakouts are a teen problem, but anyone suffering from adult acne will tell you otherwise. Because acne is such a universal skin care concern, there are many different types of acne skin care products available from drugstores, department stores, and dermatologists everywhere. The type of products you select for your skin will depend on several factors.
First is your price range. You'll find that the skin care products offered at your local drugstore are quite affordable, while the ones at department stores are more expensive. Some people feel that department store products are better in quality, while others prefer the more affordable products and find they are just as good. Next, you will need to take your skin type into consideration. While most people who are acne prone have oily skin, some have combination or aging skin. Oily skin can handle stronger products, while combination or aging skin may require something a bit more gentle.
No matter what skin type you have, the steps for skin care will usually be the same. Twice daily, it's important to use an effective cleanser to remove dirt, grime and makeup. Always remove all makeup before going to bed. Leaving it on can clog the pores and lead to more breakouts. After cleansing, toner applied with a cotton ball will help remove any remaining traces of dirt and clarify the skin. Next, you will want to apply an acne fighting product like a cream, gel or serum. Many people choose products containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid to eradicate acne. Other people, especially those with severe acne or aging skin, go with a retinol product.
Other acne skin care products you may want to consider for your routine are exfoliants and masks. Exfoliation is important for sloughing off dead skin cells and revealing a brighter, more youthful complexion and should be done once or twice weekly with a product made for acne prone skin. Masks are normally applied on a periodic basis, such as twice a month. The right facial mask can work to deep cleanse the skin and tighten the pores, improving the skin's health and appearance. While acne can be an aggravating problem, the wide variety of products available these days makes it easy to battle your breakouts and achieve clearer skin.
